Camera Tossing - L´arte casuale

This project is based on a question: Is art and especially photography always predictable and foreseeable? We want to demonstrate that it is possible to create artistic photographs without having the control over the resulting image, which is left to coincidence and to physical laws.

The technique we use is the so called “camera tossing” or “kinetic photography”. The Camera is turned, moved or thrown while the shutter is open.

The resulting photographs speak of light, darkness, contrasts and movement. The esthetics of these photographs arise from the forms created by coincidence. The background is always black or white. By moving the camera the lights and reflexes become abstract forms and structures. It is the coincidence which lets these images, forms and surfaces of light live.
